GYNECOLOGIC PROCEDURES
Colposcopy
This procedure allows your provider to see a magnified view of your cervix using a lighted microscope. It is performed to determine the cause of an abnormal pap smear.
Cryotherapy
This procedure freezes abnormal tissue and in most instances, normal tissue grows back in its place. It is used to treat problems in the cervix when a pap smear or a colposcopy procedure comes back abnormal.
Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure (LEEP)
Your provider uses an electrified loop of wire to remove abnormal tissue from the cervix. This procedure may be recommended following an abnormal pap test.
Urodynamics
Dr. Kim specializes in Urodynamics at AWC. He offers an outpatient procedure called the mid-urethral sling. Dr. Kim positions a narrow strip of material, or sling, around the urethra to support its natural tissues. The implanted sling acts like a hammock providing extra support to the urethra to prevent accidental urine leakage. Results may be noticed immediately.
OBSTETRICAL PROCEDURES
Fetal Monitoring
If an expectant mother has not felt her baby move for a while, or for other specified reasons, a monitor is placed around the mother’s belly and measures her contractions to the baby’s heart rate and beats per minute. It usually takes between 20 and 30 minutes, depending on baby’s activity.
Infertility Treatment
Hedric Hanson, MD offers initial testing and medical treatment with some fertility medications. Currently, IUF is not available in Alaska, however we are able to coordinate and assist in your care with the IUF clinic of your choice.
Nuchal Translucency
This test is usually done in the first trimester of pregnancy. It combines a maternal blood test with an ultrasound measurement and identifies fetuses at increased risk of Down Syndrome, Trisomy –18 or –13.
